Shoreline Notes

While living abroad, Nate and I always looked forward to our yearly holiday. It most often came in October, for that was when the entire country seemed to pause for rest. To escape the bustle and the throngs of travelers, we would usually leave China behind. One of the very first places we chose to see was Thailand. We had no wish for another city, we already lived in a concrete jungle. Instead, we set our hearts on a small island called Koh Jum, just off Krabi.
The resort we found there was charming, almost storybook in its simplicity, with every guest staying in their own private bungalow along the shoreline. After many days filled with Thai cooking lessons, long hikes, climbing, swimming, and hours spent under the sun, we were in need of fresh clothing. One afternoon, after a turnabout the island, we returned to our private bungalow to find our clothing neatly folded upon the bed. We also noticed that the whole room was touched with a sweet fragrance, light and comforting. Upon further examination, the scent was coming from our freshly washed clothes.
Of all the memories we gathered on that little island, it was that fragrance that lingered with us, following us home to China. When we began Andante Home, we made it one of our priorities to capture that very scent.
